Frequently Asked Questions About Counselling

My office is located in Saanich, close to the Cedar Hill golf course and UVic. Clients in Victoria and surrounding areas are welcome to book in-person sessions.
If you’d like to access a counselling session virtually, you’re welcome to book a video or phone appointment, as long as you’re a resident of British Columbia.

I work with a lot of children, youth, and families, given my background as an educator and parent.
I specialize in helping clients build emotional resilience to counter anxiety and depression and to deepen their connection with themselves and with loved ones.
We have a program for parents who want support responding to their child’s emotional storms. This is a guided experience with online curriculum and close, personalized support.
We also offer a program for kids ages 8-11 to learn how to manage their moods. These cohorts run 4 times a year and are a great introduction to counselling, by helping children build self-awareness and emotion regulation skills.
I also see many university students and enjoy supporting young adults making the transition from home base to successful independence.

Counselling can be helpful if you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or struggling with relationships, emotions, or life transitions. If you’re unsure, a complimentary consultation call can help you determine if therapy is a good fit for your needs.
-
The first session is about getting to know you—your concerns, goals, and what you hope to gain from therapy.
Your initial session will be a time for you to share what brings you to counselling, and we’ll ask questions to better understand your situation and discuss how we can support you.
-
The length of therapy varies for each person. Some clients find a few sessions helpful for short-term challenges, while others benefit from longer-term support. You and your therapist will regularly check in on progress to ensure therapy meets your needs.
-
Most clients start with weekly or bi-weekly sessions, but the frequency depends on your goals and availability. We’ll work with you to find a schedule that feels right.
-

You are welcome to come in-person if you live in Victoria, Saanich, Central Saanich, North Saanich, the Westshore, or Sooke. Virtual sessions are great for anywhere in British Columbia. Let us know what works best for you.

Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. Your information is private, except in cases where there is a legal obligation to report concerns related to safety, such as harm to yourself or others.
-
If relationship dynamics are a part of your concerns, you may choose to include a partner or family member in a session. Your therapist can discuss whether this would be helpful for your specific situation.
-
Session fees vary depending on the service and therapist. Individual sessions range from $150 - $170 per 50-minute session. Family and couples sessions range from $170 - $190 per 50-minute session.
Some insurance plans cover counselling therapy, while others do not. We recommend checking with your provider that you have coverage to work with a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC), and we’re happy to provide receipts for reimbursement if applicable.
